DON’T THINK. ITS HAZARDOUS TO MY HEALTH

“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation, but your thoughts about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking.”
― Eckhart Tolle

For a long time I lived a very unhappy life. I was miserable and in turn I made everyone else around me miserable too. The quote “Misery Loves Company ” is absolutely true. I lived by the thought
IF I CAN’T BE HAPPY NO ONE ELSE SHOULD BE EITHER. I wanted everyone to be unhappy like me. I couldn’t stand to see others smiling and having a good time. I was definitely a hater.

I didn’t understand then, what I know now. I know that I cannot trust my own thinking sometimes. Left to my own devices and my thinking patterns I would wallow in self pity, anger, resentment and despair. I would never take chances or risks for fear of being vulnerable or ridiculed. I would complain about everything and anything and I would still be a miserable, angry and alone.

I know that my thoughts can make or break how I feel about any of the millions of situations that go through my mind on a daily basis. I have learned that I can change how I feel by changing how I think. I am learning to block negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. I have also learned that negative thoughts come and go but today I do not have to act off them. That was a eye opener. I was so used to acting off impulse that it was second nature.

Today I practice pausing and evaluating situations. I practice being upbeat and helpful. Today I practice a new way of life and I am seeing some amazing results. Don’t get me wrong. Every day is not magically delicious. I go through the wringer just like everyone else. Some days more than everyone else. The difference lies in how I choose to look at the situations and how I choose to respond to them.

Right now life is good. I am happy in my own skin. I am happy where I am and how my life is turning out. There isn’t a problem or situation that I cannot get through. I believe that.
